Personalize a page with URL parameters
Use campaign links to change text, calls to action, and images on an existing page.
URL personalization changes selected text and images according to the link a visitor opens. For example, /offer?audience=agencies&type=yoga can supply a text value and select a configured image. Each selected element has its own parameter, so a heading, button label, and image can change independently.
Personalization is included in Starter and Growth. Your existing PageDuel snippet loads it automatically; you do not install a second snippet.
Create your first personalized page
- Add your site and install PageDuel. Confirm the snippet is on the exact page you want to change; a site's installation status does not prove every page has it.
- Open Personalization in PageDuel. Choose the website, enter the page URL and a page name, then select Add page.
- Select an individual text element or image in the visual editor. Give it a URL parameter. For text, configure the template and a fallback for missing values. For images, map each allowed parameter value to an HTTPS image URL and alternative text.
- Preview sample values, including a link with missing parameters. Check the mobile preview and any element diagnostics.
- Save your draft, then publish when ready. Copy a sample link and test it on the actual page before sharing it with visitors.
Saving a draft does not replace the published version. New visits receive published changes within the configuration cache window, normally 30 seconds. Reload pages opened before initial setup.
Choose useful campaign values
Use public labels such as an audience, product, or offer. A link such as /offer?audience=agencies can make a heading match the campaign that brought someone to the page. Image values choose from the mappings you configured; visitors cannot supply arbitrary image URLs.
Parameter names are case-sensitive. Missing, empty, or over-500-character text values use fallbacks. Values do not automatically carry over to the next page. Keep personal or confidential information out of links and configuration: URLs may appear in browser history or other systems, and published rules are visitor-readable.
Pause or revise
Edit and save a new draft while the current publication remains live. Publish the revision when ready, restore a retained publication from history, or pause to return to the original content. Open pages normally pick up a pause or update within about a minute; background browser throttling or network failure can extend this.
Supported content and limits
Personalization supports visible text and image elements, including responsive images. Select individual text elements if their container also includes buttons or links. It does not change form input values, arbitrary HTML or JavaScript, CSS background images, shadow DOM, or cross-origin embedded frames.
The visual preview may not work fully for pages requiring a login or their original site's runtime. Verify the result on the real page. Elements that overlap an experiment's changes are skipped to avoid conflicting edits.
Runtime diagnostics appear as custom events. Personalization does not include a randomized holdout or a dedicated conversion-lift report. Use A/B experiments when you need to compare variants with randomly assigned traffic.
